Edgemead Community Police Sub-Forum

Once again the members of this committee have witnessed the general apathy among many residents in Edgemead with regards to crime prevention. For example, we have noted that many residents leave their garage doors open at night, their security gates wide open, cars in the driveway that are unlocked, house windows left open with no burglar bars etc.

The first step in crime prevention is YOUR responsibility. This means that many of you have to change your attitude and become more safety aware at home and at work. Your contribution to creating a safer suburb is to ensure that your home and business is secure. The second step is to become more aware of your surroundings and look out for anything suspicious. Lastly it is a good idea to join your Neighbourhood Watch, even if you only become the eyes and ears of your road. YOU need to ELIMINATE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR CRIMES TO BE COMMITED.

If you choose to ignore the above advice, then the chances of a crime being committed at your home are higher than those who choose to implement improved security measures. The SAPS, security companies, Neighbourhood Watch and insurance companies cannot do these things on your behalf. As house breakings are increasing in Edgemead, it is time for every single resident take up this challenge.
